Athletico is about to close the attacker's loan Matheus Babi for the Peñarol, from Uruguay. The player is expected in Montevideo on Thursday (15) to sign contract. The information is from the newspaper El País.
Also according to the Uruguayan press, the hiring of Babi was a request of coach Diego Aguirre. O Peñarol still would have consulted David Terans and Augustín Canobbio, former players of the aurinegra team, to have references from Babi.
After loans to Santa Clara, Portugal, and Goiás, the attacker returned to Hurricane earlier this season and earned minutes with coach Juan Carlos Osorio, in the match against the Cyanorte.
In 2021, the Athletic disbursed R$ 12 million to hire Matheus Babi with Botafogo. At the time, he was the most expensive hire in the club's history. However, in two seasons, it ended up not establishing itself.
