O Corinthians has left to be offensively desired in this edition of the Brazilian Championship. With only one win so far, the team has created chances, but is wasting opportunities.
Under the command of António Oliveira, the team only rocked the nets in a single match of Brasileirão. All three goals were in the 3–0 win over the FluminenseAt Neo Chemical Arena. In the other six games played, the team passed blank in the attack.
According to Sofascore data, specializing in sports statistics, the Corinthians created 12 great chances in Brasileirão this year, but wasted ten of these opportunities, being the second team that loses most chances in the competition, behind only the Sao Paulo, with 11.
António Oliveira mentions emotional distress and plans to free the cast during Data Fifa.
Despite the disappointing offensive performance in Brasileirão, Timão's attack has been effective in other competitions. In the Brazilian Cup, the Corinthians scored nine goals in four games. In South America, the team has one of the best attacks, with 14 goals in six matches. O Corinthians took the National-PAR and the Argentine Juniors at home, by 4 to 0, and won the Racing-URU by 3 to 0, only behind Fortress (15 goals), Medellín (16) and Athletico-PR (17).
In the last collective interviews, António Oliveira valued the ability to create the team and mentioned that "assertivity" is missing in the attack.
The next commitment of Corinthians in Brasileirão will be against Atlético-GO, after Data Fifa. The duel, valid for the eighth round of Series A, is scheduled for next Tuesday, at Antônio Accioly, at 19h (from Brasilia).
Timão needs a good result in the next round to leave the delegating zone of Brasileirão. The São Jorge Park team occupies the 17th position on the table, with only five points won.
