In a weak confrontation technically, Belgium took advantage of a bid to win the victory over Canada, by 1 to 0, at the debut of the Group F of the Qatar World Cup, on Wednesday (23).
Belgium has demonstrated that it is not in the same pattern as the last Worlds and that it eliminated Brazil in the quarterfinals in 2018.
Canada has shown great will and a good defensive system. However, the attack is weak and did not add up.
Belgium could hardly threaten goalkeeper Borjan. Mainly because he couldn't count on gunner Romelo Lukaku, wounded.
This scenario lasted until quarterback Alderweireld kicked his area and found Batshuayi among the Canadian quarterbacks. The attacker dropped the ball and kicked left-handed in the left corner of the rival goalkeeper to open the score at 44 minutes.
The second half followed the same script as the first. The Belgians even managed to get out more into the game, after making substitutions, but the two attacks remained unable to breach the defensive blockade.
In the next round, on Sunday (27), Belgium will face Morocco at 10 am (from Brasilia). At 1:00, Canada will face Croatia.
