Daniel Alves is still in protective custody after being charged with alleged rape. Last Friday (20), the substitute judge of the 15th Court of Barcelona, Anna Marín, was responsible for the arrest order without bail against the right-side of the Brazilian team. In an exclusive interview with Uol Sports, Ester Garcia López, lawyer of the 23-year-old who denounced Daniel Alves explained that the player's arrest was decreed for three reasons.
" The first is the existence of evidence, we are not talking about evidence because it is a very early stage of the procedure – which would allow us to attribute an alleged offense of sexual assault, with sentence of up to 12 years in prison. The second reason was the risk of escape. He is a person with great financial capacity, who did not live in Spain and who has dual nationality. There would be much difficulty in extradition to Spain if he stepped on Brazilian territory. The third reason was to protect our client's personal effects. Preserve his identity and that there was no obstruction of justice."
Ester Garcia López also reinforced UOL that his client has no interest in receiving compensation. And she said that the judge insisted that it was a right, but that the young woman would have rejected it. "I remember her look. She looked at me and said, "Ester, I'm lucky to have good living conditions, and I don't want compensation, I want prison." She was very thoughtful about it, and it hit me. I said, "I know, but you're entitled to compensation, because there were physical injuries, and there'll be sequelae, moral damage." And she insisted, said: "I don't want money." Her line was: "If there's compensation money involved, I won't hire you," I told UOL.
The lawyer stated that the young woman cannot sleep and is psychologically shaken. "The Clinical Hospital prescribed a whole treatment aimed at avoiding any type of infectious disease, because no condoms were used. She also has a pharmacological treatment with anxiolytics so she can sleep, but she told me she can't sleep since her deposition. ... Her fear is to be identified at some point. That she wants to avoid at all costs. ".
