After a meeting that lasted more than an hour between coach Cuco and André Mazzuco, and then with CEO Alexandre Leitão and Marcio Lara, Athletico confirms: Cuca is no longer part of the club. It is the assistant Juca Antonello who takes over the team temporarily until the arrival of a new coach.
The reason for the exit is Cuca's dissatisfaction with Athletico's performance and lack of positioning of the club regarding new contractions.
The coach made it publicly clear in a press conference after the tie with the Corinthians that his will was to leave the club if there were no new hirings. In doing so, even before talking to the directorate of Athletico, the leaders felt disappointed and irritated with the coach, including President Mario Celso Petraglia.
Athletico hasn't announced or bowed to some new coach yet.
How it all happened
Cuca already took over was already determined to leave the position in the hands of the directorate of Athletico before even addressing the press conference room. This, by the way, was the subject in the coach's conversation with the players moments after the draw, by 1 to 1, against the Corinthians this Sunday, at the Ligga Arena, for the 11th round of the Brazilian Championship.
