Marcelo Teixeira, President of Santos, contacted directly with Augusto Melo, president of CorinthiansTo clarify that Fábio Carille will not be released to take command of the rival team. The decision was made amid growing speculations about the possible transfer of the coach to São Jorge Park.
Teixeira also had a direct conversation with Carille, who is currently with the Santista delegation in Fortress, focused on the Brazilian Championship Series B competition. The President of Santos reiterated the confidence and support to the coach, reaffirming the intention to keep the technician in Vila Belmiro until the end of his contract, which extends until 31 December 2024, with option of renewal for another year.
Despite the negative, Carille still has the option of breaking his contract by paying a fine of R$ 2.5 million. However, the coach made it clear in earlier conversations that he is committed to the Santos and focused on the mission of taking the club back to the elite of Brazilian football.
Marcelo Teixeira's decision comes after the Corinthians show interest in hiring Carille as a substitute for the Portuguese technician António Oliveira. The coach himself had already talked to the president, indicating that his attention was totally focused on the challenges in the Santos.
Behind the scenes, the relationship between Marcelo Teixeira and Augusto Melo is considered excellent, which facilitated direct dialogue between the leaders. However, the expectation of the Corinthian side was that after the game between Santos and Ceará, the situation could develop favorably for Timão, which did not come true with the firm decision of the Santos.
With this measure, the Santos hopes to definitively close speculations and focus on the continuity of Carille's work, aiming to return to Series A. Corinthians, in turn, follows in search of a new commander for the main team.
